  5.  Give me a short description of who you are!

  7. - Well I'm male, 24 years old and I'm last year
  8.   student computer science.
  9.  
  10.  From where did you get your handle, Dark Helmet?
  11.  
  12. - I got the name from a film of Mel Brooks called 'Spaceballs'. The
  13.   film itself is a parody on the Sciene Fiction films.

  15.  When did you discovered the world of computers?
  16. - I think I was about 10 years old when I got my first game computer
  17.   (a Philips ..., I forgot the name). Later when I was about 14, I
  18.   bought a C64 (great computer) then 4 years later I bought an Atari
  19.   520 ST computer. And a couple years later a PC, which I still use
  20.   today.

  22.  How long have you been active in the scene?

  24. - I think about a 2 years, about 6 months after I bought my PC.

  26. How did you came into the virus business?

  28. - I got involved with viruses at my school. At that time people didn't
  29.   know much about viruses and when the school got hit by a virus I
  30.   wanted to know more about these things. So I started to collect
  31.   viruses. Thats how I got in contact with <Sorry censored!> who just
  32.   had started with <More Censor!> a Hack/Phreak/Virus BBS. After just
  33.   collecting I tried to write my own virus. So I wrote my first virus
  34.   a overwriting non-resident virus of 44 bytes. It took me about 3
  35.   hours to write it because I hadn't programmed in assembler before.
  36.   Most of knowledge I got from books that you can buy at you local
  37.   bookshop.

  39.  Have you been involved in any other group than Trident?

  41. - Nope..

  43.  Who started/created Trident?

  45. - I think it was Tardy who started the group. He also came up with the
  46.   name TridenT. There where four members when the group started. John
  47.   Tardy, Peter Venkman, Bit Addict and Dark Helmet (me). The group was
  48.   founded in the summer of '92.

  50.  What's the groups goal?

  52. - To write viruses and to exchange idea's

  56. - don't know, I think 8 or 9.

  77. - Well there isn't a leading/head person or something like that.
  78.   Everyone does the things he likes.

  80.  How is Trident (currently) organzied?

  82. - Not...well loose, we do have regular meetings and so and we have a
  83.   internal network between the members.

  85.  Have you got any contacts with other virus-groups/programmers?

  87. - There are some contacts with the other main viruswriting
  88.   groups in the virusworld. And there is also some sort
  89.   of contact with other virusprogrammers in the Netherland.

  91.  Can anyone ask for membership, or are you a "private" group?

  93. - Everyone can join as long as he is willing to accept the rules

  95.  What does it take to join up?

  97. - Stick with the rules :
  98.   no racism in viruses
  99.   no destructive viruses
  100.   if you can write a virus it will help...

  102. Have you ever thought of/are you currently releasing some sort of
  103. electronic magazine (text/executable/hard-copy)

  105. - Yea, well we have discussed this idea a long time, but because of the
  106.   new laws in the netherland we didn't do it....

  108.  Are you into other things such as hacking and phreaking aswell, or
  109.  just viruses?

  111. - Well a the beginning I did a little bit of hacking aswell but I
  112.   stopped with that because the phone bills got to high
  113.  
  114.  Do you have some network-connection?

  119.  Can you name a few viruses/engines that members of Trident has

  122. - TPE, Horns of Jericho, Crusher, Civil War, Gotcha, and so on...

  128.  Which one was the hardest to write?

  130. - None virus writing isn't that hard..

  132.  Do you have any sort of company or law-enforcement who are trying
  133.  to hunt Trident down?

  139. - No, they are a real threat to us...

  141.  Have you ever had any trouble in the group with the result of kicked
  142.  member(s)?

  144. - Nope, because nobody is kicked out...

  146.  How good are Trident comparing to other groups?

  148. - We are the best...( well at least we are in the top 3 )

  150.  Do you have any couriers that spread your products around?

  152. - No, I upload the creation to a Vx board and then it will spread itself

  154.  What do you think about the laws against h/p/v that has arrived lately?

  156. - I here they are becoming a problem to us, because you have to be very 
  157.   carefull that you don't break the law

  159.  Would you feel guilty if one of your viruses made damage to a hospital?

  161. - I don't thinks so, because I don't feel responsible if someone else
  162.   start releasing viruses in the wild. As a matter of fact I think that
  163.   the most viruswriters don't spread there creation around in the wild.
  164.   I think that the whole virus problem is exaggerated by some anti-virus
  165.   people.

  167.  Do you see any differences between the scene now and a couple of
  168.  years ago (concerning the underground part ofcause)?

  170. - Well its much more organized then a few years back, and there 
  171.   is also more contact with the other groups and viruswriters.
  172.   and there are now much more people involved then 
  173.   a few years back.

  175.  Which virus-magazine do you think is the best avalible now-a-days?

  177. - Crypt and 40Hex, I like Crypt for the news and 40hex for the news and
  178.   programming stuff

  180.  Which virus-group/programmer do you admire/like?

  182. - No one..,I don't believe in that hero stuff andso..

  184.  Which country is the best virus-writing today?

  186. - Maybe Russia, don't know exactly...

  190. - I think Phalcon/Skism is very good.

  192.  What do you think about these virus generators, such as VCL or PS-MPC?
  193.  IVP, NUKE-GV etc. etc.?

  195. - I'm working on my own virus generator now, that will generating
  196.   viruses the polymorphic way. It was planned to be ready last xmas,
  197.   but some things came up and I don't know when I finnish it yet.

  199.  What do you think about the people using them?

  201. - Well I don't see the fun of using a virusconstructor and generate
  202.   a virus and spread it. I mean whats the point of it. Be orginal and
  203.   try to write your own virus.

  205.  What do you think about people bragging over (almost) nothing and
  206.  ragging with other groups aswell?

  210.  What do you think about such individes as board-crashers?

  212. - Depends on the reason for crashing the board. But if there is no
  213.   good reason I see it as pure vandalism.

  215.  Describe the perfect virus :

  217. - I don't think there is suchs thing as a perfect virus, every virus
  218.   has some negative aspects....

  220.  Which AV-program do think is the best, and why?

  222. - F-Prot, it has a easy to use user-interface, and it has a good
  223.   detection rate of viruses. For students its free.

  225.  What do you think about the underground's future?

  227. - I think there is no more real underground, I think is will more public
  228.   in the future. Next I believe that the underground will become more
  229.   organzied both in contact between each other as in more groups.

  231.  Any advice to people who want's to learn the basic of virus-writing?

  233. -  1. Buy a good book. (I learned a lot of 'Advanced MS-DOS programming,
  234.       by Ray Duncan, second edition, Microsoft Press, Redmond WA, USA)
  235.    2. Then get some real viruses and study them. 
  236.    3. Try to write a simple virus, like a overwriting one, or a simple
  237.       non-resident infector, then move up to resident ones and so on.
